Kaplan University Partners with Kauffman FastTrac® to Offer FastTrac® Courses in Entrepreneurship Specializations

Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, today announced that it has teamed up with Kauffman FastTrac®, a premier provider of learning curricula for entrepreneurs, to integrate FastTrac courses into two online master’s degree specializations—the new Entrepreneurship specialization within the Master of Science in Information Technology program and the Entrepreneurship specialization within the Master of Business Administration program.
“Kauffman has a premier reputation for entrepreneurial training and development. These specializations provide Kaplan University with an opportunity to expand its online curriculum with the highest quality tools to help students successfully pursue entrepreneurial ventures,” said Thomas Boyd, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business and Management.”The FastTrac courses are particularly beneficial as entrepreneurial opportunities continue to grow at high rates in today’s business world.”
According to the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity, a leading indicator of new business creation in the United States, the number of new businesses created during the current recession increased. In 2009, business startups reached their highest level in 14 years – even exceeding the number of startups during the peak 1999-2000 technology boom.
The new Entrepreneurship specialization within the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) includes FastTrac New Venture™ courses, such as Foundations of Entrepreneurship: FastTrac® New Venture and FastTrac New Venture Lab. The existing Entrepreneurship specialization within the Master of Business Administration program has been updated to include FastTrac New Venture™ courses, such as Small Business Administration and Corporate Venturing.
”Nearly all net job growth in our country comes from companies less than five years old. So, today more than ever, we need graduate business and IT students to understand the importance of entrepreneurship and to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and skill set to encourage the startup and growth of new firms,” said Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, which created the FastTrac program. “By adding the FastTrac program to their MBA and MSIT course curricula, Kaplan University will effectively equip even more business leaders and entrepreneurs with the skills they need to start and grow firms—thus creating the innovations, jobs and wealth this country needs to recover and prosper.”
