Kaplan University Signs Agreement with International Union of Police Association to Expand Education Options for Law Enforcement Officers

Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, and the International Union of Police Association (IUPA), AFL-CIO today announced an alliance agreement that will provide the union's estimated 100,000 members with opportunities to pursue online degrees. The degrees are designed to help the IUPA members advance in their law enforcement careers, get the skills they need to start new careers or prepare for retirement. The partnership will also provide IUPA members and their immediate family members with a special reduced tuition rate.
“Our working with Kaplan University opens up a whole new set of career opportunities for our members,” said IUPA International President Sam A. Cabral. “By taking advantage of Kaplan's programs, our officers will ensure a much more secure financial future for themselves and their families. Too often, law enforcement officers find themselves forced to take early retirement for serious career-ending injuries. An advanced degree opens whole new career opportunities in less strenuous fields and allows an officer to be financially secure.”
The Kaplan/IUPA partnership gives law enforcement personnel the opportunity to earn associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees as well as professional certificates. The University offers a wide variety of legal, criminal justice and law-related programs, including Crime Scene Technician and Corrections certificates, criminal justice degrees with emphases in forensic psychology and homeland security, and a juris doctor degree. Concord Law School of Kaplan University was the nation's first fully online law school and is the only one that is part of a regionally accredited university. Additionally, Kaplan's more than 125 online programs and offerings make it possible for officers to continue to work full time while pursuing higher education.
“Kaplan University's programs are designed to provide customized education options for non-traditional students who are looking for innovative, high-quality degree options that are also convenient,” said Gregory Marino, president of the Kaplan University Group. “In addition to a wide portfolio of law-related degree programs, the University also offers information technology, business, education and health care-related degrees that could satisfy a wide variety of education interests.”
IUPA members will receive a 10 percent tuition reduction on all of the University's programs. Additionally, members will receive a 10 percent tuition reduction on Kaplan Virtual Education's online high school programs and a 15 percent reduction on all Kaplan Continuing Education online certificate programs. Also, as part of the partnership, Kaplan will be a sponsor at both the 2011 Conference and the 2012 Convention for the International Union of Police Associations, AFL-CIO (IUPA).
