More adults have turned to online colleges to finish their education and earn a degree. California Southern University (cal southern), an online school, announced this week that it will sponsor the distance learning page of the Social Psychology Network website. The institution's goal is to continue to encourage individuals in the psychology field to return to school and advance their careers. "With many adults returning to school to complete their degree and further their career goals, there is an increasing need for quality online education that can be accessed from anywhere in the world," said Barbara Grimes, the dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences at cal southern.
Grimes also noted that the sponsorship is symbolic of the college's commitment to online education and distance learning for working professionals.
The school has been an advocate for distance learning since it was established in 1978. Not only does cal southern allow students to work toward psychology degrees through online courses, but it offers internships and practicum opportunities as well.
The demand for psychologists is expected to grow by 12 percent by 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Online colleges can give adults the flexible schedule they need to work toward a degree.
